あなたは日本語を話せますか?

If you decided to check out this post because of the Japanese above, I certainly hope you understood it because I’m looking for anyone who can help me advance my Japanese! It’s shameful really that I’ve had years of classes, but have let my brain turn to mush with lack of practice. As someone who’s desired to be fluent in the language since childhood it’s unforgivable quite frankly. So I’d like to put out a call of sorts. Anyone that wants to occasionally chat in Japanese, and can point me in the right direction — stuff like common vocab and syntax mostly. I mean I know most of the common phrases, but I’m far far far from fluent.

I’ll be studying using Memrise app as well as some YouTube videos, but I’m sure there’s better things I could be doing. I’d like to speak with some of the Japanese students that go to my university, but I feel awkward asking them for help without already knowing them… Any ideas?

読んでくれてありがとう! [Had to plug that into Google translate (._.)]

  1. If your U. have a Japanese appreciation club or something you could join them! From what I understand, most Japanese are pretty happy to know that foreigners are able to or trying to learn the language earnestly (from my experience, but it may vary…)
My brother uses a learning/chat messaging platform, I’ll check with him what app it is. 🙂

I got back from my bro who said he used an app called 'HelloTalk', supposedly available on both apple/android devices. There are jap users on the app, and its meant to be kind of a language/cultural exchange learning thing – maybe you might find it useful.

  2. I’m in the the same boat. I have years of study in college and if you don’t use it you lose it. I recently picked up a workbook and started listening to audio from Hoopla to try to kick start my memory.
